Getting ready for OSX Leopard

I guess I’m one of the lucky ones who have several 2,5″ HDD laying around without a box - thereby rendering them somewhat useless. I went down to the local computer pusher to buy a suitable case (with both Firewire & USB2 of course).

I found a case that met my demands - however it was rather hideous, and being a Mac-guy and all, I knew something had to change… So what to do? Paint it? Hmm nope… Painting plastic and aluminum usually leaves a result worse than what I started with…

So I thought “Hey… Let’s wrap it to go with the new OSX”.

Tadaaaa! A furry OSX Leopard ready portable harddrive.

A special thanks to Jason at O’Grady’s Powerpage For good advice…

EDIT:
Here is what you need: 50×50cm of Leopard patterned (furry) plush (5$ - any decent girlfriend should be able to drag you to her nearest fabric-pusher), some fabric glue suitable for both cloth and aluminum (5$) and of course a suitable HDD-cabinet - preferably one that is made like a tube with end-pieces (around 65$). Then it’s just play n’ pray and you’ve got yourself an external harddrive to go with Leopard.

Wow, talking about an improvement! Is it possible to wrap, lets say, an entire macbook that way? You know the ladies like the fur. ;-)

Hey, doesn’t the hard drive overheat??? And wrapping the macbook with that might look good, but practically… it would melt to a small plastic ball…

The box is spacious enough so it isn’t a problem…. It actually doesn’t overheat. Thanks for your comments

Hey, those things DO get warm!
Mad*Dog makes a beautiful plain black, super small case with an awesome blue logo-light on the front. (Firewire & USB conections) It fits neatly into a shirt pocket. Got mine at CompUSA.

How did you install Leopard on the external drive? The installer (official preview version) doesn’t allow me to select my external 2.5″ FW drive.

I didn’t… this project was only made as a “things to do while waiting for OSX Leopard”
I havn’t tried out OSX Leopard out yet but would expect the final release being able to install on an external HDD just like every other previus OSX

I do a bit of airbrushing as a hobby, on all sorts of things (canvas, paper, pvc, sheet metal, model cars, planes and boats, naked bodies, etc…) and could give any external hd a custom paint job (using the same paint to do model cars etc).

So a leapord skin without the fur, your favourite cartoon character, any tattoo design and the list is endless.

Any airbrush artist could do the same.
I’m gonna go buy a external hd case and do it up to show you. Anyone got any requests for what they would like to see ??

BTW, what brand external HD case did you buy ?

I have an extra ordinarily hard time finding ones with firewire that actually work with mac.

And I apologise for the double post.

Any USB or Firewire HDD case will do…
It’s all a matter of what file system you on the harddrive itself
that will make it a mac or a win HDD.

So just pic any one with the shape best suited for you project
Looking forward to seeing some of pics of the result

Regarding the motive… hmm… maybe looking strait down a wortex or black hole ending in the drives Firewire or USB port, where all the ones and zeros are being sucked down or are sorta jumping in.

Tanks to your all for your comments
