Automated BB-gun trigger

c-h-a-o-s.com Automated trigger.

Inspired by the motion picture “The Jackal”, where Bruce Willis built a mean-ass automated gun (aka turret, aka sentry gun), I have always wanted to build something similar myself.

One of the hurdles I had to overcome was to automate the trigger… Iv’e tried loads of different solutions including electromagnets or weird solutions with strings and a rotary motor.

A major goal in this process is finding a way to get a rapid linear pull when flipping a switch upon which the “finger” should return to its original position… Ready for the next pull…

The solution I came up with (as shown in the pictures) was using the linear motor from the central locksystem used in a car. This was mounted on the gun with some pieces of aluminum from a studio rack mount and some parts for mounting a lock on a bike. I added a springcoil on the linear motor so it would go back to its original position. Finally I strung a wire from the “finger” and around back of the handle of the gun, thus making a soft but strong pull to the trigger.

Et voilá. Add 12v to the equation and you’ve got a lightning fast remote trigger and the ability to deploy rapid fire down range.

Be sure to read “The Turret #2″ - Mounting the gun. Coming soon.

    Thanks for your comment
To answer your first question: you’ll have to reed one of the following posts
To the second question: yes it’s very doable all you need is a gun with a standard grip.

Holy crap guy, I think you’ve made a serious mistake.

I hate to burst your bubble, but what you’ve got there is HUGE trouble.

The BATFE considers any electronic trigger on a semiautomatic firearm a MACHINE GUN. I’m not joking. They take this stance because it would be ridiculously easy to make a semiautomatic electronic trigger into a full auto one. It falls under the “readily convertible” guidelines.

Now, what you’ve made there is an electronic trigger for an airsoft/BB gun THAT CLOSELY RESEMBLES A REAL GUN. If the BATFE sees that, all they’ll notice is how easily that could be slapped on a real handgun. They’ll probably charge you with illegal manufacture or constructive possession.

Seriously, Google this stuff, it is incredibly serious. I’d take this project off this site until you get an answer from the BATFE or a lawyer on whether or not your in bad territory here. I don’t agree with it, but I’m really sure you’re committing a felony.

FIND OUT FOR SURE BEFORE YOU CONTINUE!!!

Thanks for your comment and heads up.
But don’t worry i’m living and moding in Denmark and as long as I am only doing it on a BB-gun it’s perfectly legal… Be sure to catch my next article on this issue ;)

    Just one question:
    How do you cock it?

it’s probably a gas bb gun. so it automatically cocks after each shot. if its spring then that would be complicated and probably not worth the effort.

CypherNinja, you have no clue what you’re talking about. The Project is based on a “BB” Gun/ Air Gun. Taking this fact into consideration makes your position foolish. One more thing my friend, all most every “BB” Gun/ Airsoft gun is made to look identical to the real thing and is perfectly legal… so what is your point in saying “THAT CLOSELY RESEMBLES A REAL GUN”, you sound like some type of alarmist. You should read the laws before you post an ignorant warning.
Plus, full machine gun “BB” guns are perfectly legal in the USA, and yes, they all “look” very real. Research DROZD BB MACHINE GUN and the like.

Now please continue with your great project, without listening to coward alarmists (like CypherNinja) that seem to feed off of drama. I can not wait to see your “Turret” post.

Very interesting project you have. Here in the UK we have a similar project running. Were looking to add a wireless camera for vision and are looking into the possibility of giving it auto turret features via gps locators and target tracking tech. Keep me posted
    cheers.
